Show HN: Physically accurate black hole you can put in your room

A Show HN project called Black hole playground lets people drop a realistic-looking black hole into their space through a phone camera, or poke around in virtual reality. On paper, that’s the story. In the comments, though, the real plot twist is that the internet responded exactly how you’d hope: with awe, existential dread, and jokes about already having a black hole at home.

The strongest reaction was basically “this is amazing and also deeply unsettling.” One commenter said it was their first ever augmented reality experience and immediately wanted to know how the hole stayed locked in one spot while they walked around. Another went straight for comedy, saying the view somehow fixed things when aimed at the “pre-existing black hole in my room.” Naturally, somebody else arrived with the most internet response possible: “The singularity is near.” If you like your science with a side of doomposting, the community delivered.

Then things got unexpectedly personal. One commenter reminisced about an old virtual reality space demo and confessed it unlocked a “deep, crippling phobia of large objects” plus a fear of black holes. So while some people saw a cool science toy, others saw nightmare fuel with better graphics. There wasn’t a huge fight, but there was a delicious split between “mind-bending masterpiece” and “absolutely not, keep that cosmic horror out of my house.” In other words: a perfect comment section.
